Every year we plan a few great trips designed to load up on memories (the excellent kind!) and pack away a few more the miles…  This is how sailors build experience and the confidence to do ’it’ on their own!  Come join us or tag along flotilla-style in your own boat!

Here are a few examples of some excellent trips we have taken:

Block Island Weekender
Only about 11 miles off the coast of Rhode Island, Block Island has a lot to offer, and the atmosphere is exceptional. We are leaving from Mystic/CT typically on Saturday to sail to this beautiful island. The novice will, for the first time, experience the strong tidal currents near The Race. Block Island features a beautiful New England scenery overlaid with island charm. The many little stores in town offer something for everyone. Bicycles are available for rent and come in handy to explore the old lighthouses on the south and north coasts. If you feel less active, you may want to just enjoy the scenery at Crescent Beach. Whatever your preference, you will agree that Block Island is a unique jewel in the ocean, and you’ll probably will make plans to come back soon.

Summer Get-Aways !

Shelter Island Circumnavigation

Shelter Island is located between the forks of Long Island, and it harbors some of the most amazing cruising grounds in the area. We will be leaving from Mystic/CT to sail either through The Race or Plum Gut, experiences by themselves. Stops in Dering Harbor, Little Peconic Bay, Smith Cove and Sag Harbor will give everyone an appreciation for the beauty of these confined waters and the magnificent coastline.  Our last stop in Sag Harbor is an opportunity to explore the many little stores in town before settling in for dinner. The Hamptons from the water!  A great way to spend a long weekend.

Sailing to Newport
Our departure from Mystic is often on Friday, and we’ll sail through the Watch Hill Passage along the coast of Rhode Island and around Point Judith. Newport was home to the America's Cup for over 130 years, until Dennis Conner tragically lost to Australia. You will find a very lively town, both on and off the water, and there are lots of things to see and do. We might pick up a mooring near town or even a slip to be close to the action! The main street area is small and packed tight with people, shops and restaurants. There always seems to be some form of festival, boat show or regatta happening. No wonder that today Newport is considered one of the prime sailing cities on the East Coast. We can explore the town, visit the Museum of the America’s Cup, the Yacht Restoration School or go for a long hike to visit the numerous mansion the city is famous for. Alternatively, Narragansett Bay is a beautiful sailing area that we may want to explore. Our return to Mystic is planned for Sunday afternoon.
